Serving all Arabic Speaking Communities

Migration

Migration

The migration patterns of the diverse Arabic speaking communities has varied over the years and has been mostly defined by the socio-economic factors and political circumstances of their countries of origin.

A large number of people from Arabic speaking countries have arrived in Australia as refugees through our Humanitarian Program.

The biggest communities of Arabic speaking backgrounds are from Lebanon, Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Palestine. With many of these based in Melbourne and Victoria (68,437 Arabic speakers in Victoria, 2011 Census), Arabic is included in the 6 most commonly spoken languages (other than English). Some of our clients represent the more established and ageing Arabic community of Moreland, with large number of Lebanese in Brunswick, Fawkner and Glenroy.
